Dr. Blanton has more than 25 years of experience in organizational consultation and coaching with a broad range of clients in business, government, education and not-for profit areas. Her work is based on solid training in psychology and management enriched with business savvy and deepened through battle scars from a long and varied practice.  Her style provides support but also challenges her clients to push toward greater levels of performance.  Clients often comment on her sense of humor and how she is able to bring her broad knowledge of research to bear on practical problems. 

Her coaching clients range from CEOs of Fortune 500 companies to high tech start-ups.  She has helped faltering executives regain their effectiveness and credibility and high-potential employees stretch meet their new challenges.  She has a particular interest in assisting those in new roles to hit the job running and work successfully with their new teams.

Her consulting has involved aiding teams to become more aligned, productive and collegial.  She has experience dealing with conflict among executives and improving the communication architecture of an organization.  Her early background in program evaluation and planning assists her when helping organizations set goals, develop effective action plans and assess their progress.  Organizations undergoing major changes or transitions have called on her to help them implement strategies to assure that the changes are not only implemented but also sustained.

She has many years of experience helping Boards and organizations choose new leaders.  Her council is based on in-depth interviews focused on the specific parameters of the roles and needs of the organization as well as well-validated tests that are customized for the specific situation.

Prior to founding Blanton Consulting, Dr. Blanton was a Partner with the well-respected psychological consulting firm of RHR International, LLC, and served as Managing Director of their Los Angeles Office.   She has worked as an executive in a research firm and as college professor.  Dr. Blanton received her bachelor’s and doctoral degree from the University of Texas in Austin and holds an Advanced Management Program Certificate from the University of Southern California’s School of Business. 

She is a licensed psychologist, Fellow of the American Psychological Association (APA), and is Board Certified though The American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) with a diplomate in Organizational and Business Consulting Psychology.  Dr. Blanton served as President of APA’s Division of Consulting Psychology and is a recipient of its Outstanding Service Award. She currently sits on the editorial board of the Consulting Psychology Journal and was a past recipient of its Most Outstanding Article Award.  She has chaired the APA Board of Professional Affairs and is currently a member of the APA Council of Representatives.  She received the award for Distinguished Service in I-O and Consulting from the California Psychological Association as well as the organization’s top honor, the Silver Chi award.  At its annual meeting in August 2015 Dr. Blanton received an APA Presidential Citation for her contribution to the field. 

She has written over two-dozen professional articles and chapters, co-authored two books and is a regular presenter at professional conferences and business meetings, including lectures and presentations at USC, UCLA, and Harvard. Her latest research is on how consultants are supervised to develop their skills.
